1966 marked the introduction of the 427 cubic inch V8 which was available in two power ratings - 390 horsepower or 425 horsepower. Acceleration was said to be breathtaking. The vehicles equipped with these engines came with the special power bulge hood. The backup lights were incorporated into the taillights and were standard equipment. Holley carburetors were standard on all engines. Total Corvette production was 27,720 and of these, 5,258 were equipped with the 425 horsepower, 427 CID V8.
